A glass of port, right on the Amstel
The Francesinha originated in the 1950s in Porto: the Portuguese answer to the croque-monsieur, but richer, fuller and intended to be eaten with a knife and fork. Our chefs learned their trade in Coimbra and use a sauce recipe that is passed down from chef to chef, without ever being written down. We get the bread, cheese and chouriço directly from Portugal. We make the rest ourselves, here on the Amstel.
